40 year old Heriberto Herrera, also known as Nony, was last seen in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 14, 2010. His vehicle was found the following month in Mt. Charleston.
Background
Heriberto Herrera, known as Nony, was born in Puerto Rico on April 18, 1970 and moved to the United States in 1975. He has lived in Las Vegas for most of his life.
Nony is married and has twin sons. He worked in the casino industry for 15 years and as a cab driver. He had recently taken a leave of absence from work to help care for his sons who were born premature.
Shortly before he disappeared he was diagnosed with several mental illnesses and may be in need of treatment.
He had also cut off communications with his sisters in April 2010, whom he was very close to.
Disappearance

On May 14, 2010, Heriberto Herrera was last seen in Las Vegas, Nevada. He drove to the Clark County School District Police Department to see his sister at work, but wasn’t able to visit with her.
He spoke to his sister on the phone later that day, telling her his wife had left him and taken the children while he was asleep. He then reported them missing to the police.
At 3:00 pm Herrera’s wife, Johanna Blake, returned to their Summerlin home with a police escort to pick up some belongings. Herrera was there at the time.
He called his wife later that evening saying that he loved her and their sons. That is the last time anyone has heard from him.
Investigation
Herrera’s wife told investigators he had a severe psychotic break on the night of April 19, 2010, and that he was admitted to the Spring Mountain Treatment Center for his mental illness.
He was diagnosed with depression with psychotic features, bipolar disorder, and schizoaffective disorder. He was discharged on April 29th with a recommendation for outpatient treatment.
His wife left with their sons on May 14, 2010, following odd and aggressive behavior from Herrera, stating she feared for the safety of her and their children.
Upon Herrera filing a missing person’s report on his wife and children, police reached out to verify their well-being, at which time the report was voided.
On June 15, 2010, Herrera’s vehicle was located in Mt. Charleston, Nevada, near the Mary Jane Falls trailhead. It was impounded and processed by Las Vegas Metro Police.
A packed suitcase, a package of bottled water with one bottle missing, and medication were found inside. Loved ones say he did not enjoy the mountains, and that it’s uncharacteristic of him to drive there.
In August 2011, hikers found a box of Herrera’s financial records, along with 25 credit cards and cash, on Mount Charleston, at about 9,500 feet. Herrera has asthma, and authorities aren’t sure he could have made that hike.
No further clues as to his whereabouts have been found.
