Investigation
According to a former informant for the DEA, Chris Heifner, Andes reportedly ran a small drug trafficking ring that took drugs from El Paso to Kansas, Tennessee, and east Texas.
In 1999, Heifner says he started working for Andes as drug courier, taking marijuana to Memphis and delivering money to Mexican operators in Juárez.
After getting caught during a traffic stop, Heifner decided to cooperate with authorities and become an informant for the DEA. He went back to Andes to ask for more work, but Andes turned him down.
Soon after Andes disappeared, the DEA stopped using Heifner as an informant because his connection was gone. It is unknown if Andes’ disappearance was related to drugs.
