‘Frustrated’ Daycare Owner, 23, Accused of Repeatedly Slam-ming Infant’s Head Into Floor Charged with Mur-der

A baby boy is dead and a young daycare owner is charged with capital murder following an incident that occurred on the morning of Dec. 30 in Arkansas.

At 11:14 a.m. Tuesday, officers with the Little Rock Police Department responded to the home of Erin Sauls, 23, who runs a daycare out of her residence.

Officers encountered an 8-month-old who was unresponsive and began performing emergency CPR as the infant was rushed to a local hospital, according to a copy of the incident report.

The boy died at the hospital and an initial investigation determined his cause of death to be homicide.

The report said that the officer then spoke with Sauls, who allegedly admitted to slamming the boy’s head on the floor multiple times while changing his diaper because “she was frustrated and had a headache.”

That action was consistent with the skull fractures and brain bleeds the boy suffered, according to police, who arrested Sauls that same day.

Sauls made her first court appearance on Wednesday, Dec. 31, during which she entered a not guilty plea to the charge of capital murder, according to court records .

The judge then denied a request for bail and ordered Sauls to remain in custody ahead of her trial.

Family members have identified the victim as Elijah Flowerday, and a GoFundMe has been created to help the family raise money for funeral costs.

“This tragedy has left Isaac, Trinity, and their son Laylon heartbroken as they grieve the loss of their son and little brother,” the fundraiser reads. “The days ahead will be incredibly difficult as they try to find comfort and healing together as a family.”
